CorticalDB, formerly Artificial Development, was founded in Mountain View June 2003 and has been operating as a research and development company until recently, focusing its research in cortical systems and brain emulation techniques. Now it has its headquarters in San Francisco’s SOMA district, research facilities in India and a software development team in Paraguay. The company has been financed by its founder, Marcos Guillen and will start looking for investors in the immediate future.

CorticalDB is readying a number of commercial products spun from its research, most notably its flagship product, CorticalDB, a database management system (DBMS) software product for unstructured information, capable of making meaning based associations between multiple pieces of data and integrating vast quantities of intelligence from multiple data sources.

Marcos Guillen - CEO/CTO

Marcos Guillen is a serial entrepreneur who has a successful track record in launching emerging technology companies. He founded CorticalDB (formerly Artificial Development) in July 2003 to build a complete simulation of the Human Cortex and peripheral systems. Guillen is also the founder of Ditro.com (Now Inavan LTD), an outsourcing company with more than a hundred employees and customers in 10 countries. Previously, Guillen served (1999 to 2002) as the co-founder, president, and CEO of Red Internauta SA, Spain's largest independent dial-up ISP at the time. Marcos also founded Ran Networks SL in 1995, a hosting company and one of Spain largest Dedicated Server provider, serving as the company's CEO from 1995 through 1999. Prior to forming Ran, Guillen founded and managed HS Computers, a computer retail chain, serving as the CEO from 1992 until its sale in 1995.

Fernando Maroto - Director of Research

Maroto is Maroto holds a Bachelor degree on Theoretical Physics, a Bachelor degree on Mathematics, and a Mater degree on Molecular Biology. Moroto has over 10 years of experience in the bioinformatics field. He has published numerous peer review papers, patents, and commercial software products involving protein identification and Probabilistic Reasoning.

Mathew Gregory - CorticalDB India Director, CorticalDB Vice President of R&D

Mathew Gregory is the director of CorticalDB India operations, leading the team of local biotech researchers working on the CorticalMAP project and other essential R&D activities. Mathew has held different positions in a number of Indian IT outsourcing companies, including serving as company co-director for Inavan India operations from 2004 to 2008; Mathew has earned a BSc Degree from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala and a Master of Science Degree in Biotechnology from Calicut University, Kerala. His research experience includes researching the role of the hippocampal formation in spatial cognition and has done a project on the genetic analysis of an enterobacterium at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.
